The Trump administration has bragged about the development and deployment of new more powerful and accurate nuclear weapons to expand the U.S. arsenal. Now the Senate Appropriation Committee wants the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) to carry out an investigation into technical problems that are plaguing U.S. nuclear weapons programs.

440 Million Trees
Many scientists say that we can greatly help our species (not to mention the rest of the planet) by planting a trillion trees to cut the carbon in our atmosphere by 25%. It's not everything we need but it is a fantastic start, and Ireland is jumping right in, planting 440 million within the next 20 years.
Happy Little Trees For Bob
Bob Ross, Mr. Rogers and LeVar Burton are the wholesome heroes we need today, and while two are gone they're certainly not forgotten. In Michigan, Bob Ross fans just planed 1,000 "happy little trees" to honor the artist, and is there really any better way to honor someone than to give life to that many people and plants?
The U.S. Needs To Combat Climate Change
If all of your friends are jumping off a cliff, you're not supposed to join in, or so the saying goes. But when the world is on the brink of burning up if we don't drastically make some changes, the United States needs to act and fast.
Bulletproof, Fire Away
OK, don't REALLY fire away at this cat. It's not bulletproof, but it IS partly made out of titanium! Ryhzik, a cat in Sibera, lost all of his limbs after being abandoned and getting frostbite. The paws weren't able to be saved, but the human who found and adopted the cat agreed to replace them with prostethics thanks to the vet who trated the animal.
Laura Grace Weldon is Poet of the Year
If you're a fan of the book Free Range Learning, you already know a bit about Laura Grace Weldon. It's one of my favorite books about learning and unschooling/homeschooling in general, and it's a great read for any parent. If you don't already follow her blog, it's another wonderful resource that we've used many times over the years for fun learning ideas, often of the whimsical and even silly variety. Do any of them and you're bound to make memories.
It's The Real Deal
There's been a big trend to modify Stephen King adaptations lately, and while most of these attempts have fallen flat, It: Chapter 2 is the real deal. (Spoilers ahead.) Its modifications, like Bill's attempt to save a child, actually make sense and deepen the movie without totally changing King's meaning, and it's even more loyal to the book than its 1990s predecessor. While it's not 100% true to the book, the changes maintain the book's integrity and actually further elucidate both meaning and character development. I have to say, this may be my favorite adaptation of King's horror works.
Harry Potter Lego Advent On Sale!
While my family isn't religious, we love a good countdown calendar SO much. We do them for birthdays, Halloween, Valentine's and Christmas, and we mix up little gifts with candies and little slips of paper that say an activity or craft to do that day. One year we did all books for Valentine's Day and it was lovely!
Pink Asks For Day Without Criticizing Others
Pink is one of the best role models as far as celebs go. She embraces every supposed "flaw" on her body, defends herself, sends shout-outs to her kids and really promotes positive body image. Now she's promoting general positivity and kindness between human beings by asking for a simple thing: to go a day without criticizing anyone, specifically on the Internet.
